February 2019: SBB requests IRIS certificates

I hope every Swiss railway supplier heard the shot. It was already announced last June in Zurich at a SwissRAIL event, but now, after Deutsche Bahn AG, SBB has also taken a clear position. Dietmar Gessner, Chief Procurement Officer at SBB, informed SwissRAIL that from mid-2021 onwards, SBB will no longer accept suppliers of safety-relevant products that have not been IRIS certified yet.

This formulates clear expectations and in particular the Swiss railway industry should make good use of the remaining time. If one want to give in to the pressure and want to stay in the railway business, the start should be in January 2020 at the latest, because the hurdles are high and the preparations for an initial IRIS certification will take time.
